The CrossFit Community

Yesterday afternoon, a box in Fishers, Body Evolution (BE) CrossFit, had their Grand Opening to the community. The owners of BECF, Amber and Patrick, invited Jason and me to come to the Grand Opening yesterday, so we took the journey across 465 and up 69 to see the space.

First of all, the box is beautiful! It is a great space. It’s bright, welcoming, well-designed and spacious.  The exposed brick wall and personal touches add so much to their space. It was easy to tell, through their excitment, Amber and Patrick are going to build a great community. We wish you guys the best of luck!

Second, I had a bit of an epiphany yesterday while walking around and touring the facility. One of the coolest things about CrossFit hit me: here we are in a competitor’s box, genuinely excited for them and genuinely wanting them to succeed. There is no other industry in which you find this sort of camaraderie. It speaks volumes to the community present in CrossFit. Our communities are healthier, happier places when the people in them are healthier, happier people. Moving your body, building friendships, and overcoming challenges inspire you to do more, be more, and most importantly give more. We are PROUD to be a box who supports other boxes. We are proud of the fitness community being built in Indy, and we are proud of all of YOU-athletes out there helping us build it.

Welcome to the community BE CrossFit!

I’m literally – as I type this – trying to think of the last time I saw anyone in the fitness space hold their hand up and say, “Here’s who hasn’t gotten great results at my gym.” Obviously, that’s because we all want all of you to believe that results shown in testimonials and before … more »

Mental Health: Why Just Showing Up is Enough.

There’s a very famous quote which says, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit.” Aristotle said that way back when (like before Christ) and it rings just as true today as it did in ancient Greece. The truth is that we are not in control of most … more »

Healthy Holidays: Why “Getting Back on Track” is the Wrong Message

Before the Thanksgiving holiday, I wrote a post about why you should eat whatever you please on Thanksgiving and not feel guilty about it in any way. The next topic I have a big issue with is the idea of getting back on track after the holiday. On its surface, this seems like a completely … more »

Thanksgiving 2019: The reason to eat whatever you want for this one day.

Okay, every year you get bombarded with messages about how to have a healthy Thanksgiving. These are great. The problem is, none of them work because they put you into this impossible-to-follow box of holiday restriction. Please, tell me the last time you went to Thanksgiving dinner and thought about how many side dishes you … more »

Does Calorie Counting Work?

Talk about a big topic, huh? Calorie counting is at the foundation of many popular diets including macros, keto, and of course a basic calorie counting plan focused on a set number, regardless of what the breakdown of nutrients is. However, a lot of research indicates that calorie counting is an inexact science at best, … more »

Can I eat Halloween candy while on a nutrition program?

Happy Halloween! For most of us, Halloween has a lot less to do with goblins and vampires, and a lot more to do with candy, cookies, and other treats. If you have an event coming up that you need to look or perform a certain way, maybe lay off the Snicker’s bar, but if you’re … more »
